Australia-Sydney day 1

We were very excited to take a trip to Australia over Chinese New Year.  It is still a 9 hour flight from Hong Kong to Sydney, but it is much closer than flying from the US, so we figured if we wanted to go this was the time to do it.  Also, it is only a 3 hour time difference to Sydney, so we were happy to not have much jet lag to deal with.  The kids finished school on a Friday with their Chinese New Year celebrations.  We left that evening for Sydney.  The best flight option was an overnight flight.  I was hoping the kids would be tired enough to get a decent night's sleep.  I was definitely over-optimistic in this prediction.  We all arrived in Sydney the next morning running on fumes.  We got a taxi to our apartment (Airbnb), and took a walk in town to find some lunch.  We found a cute little cafe for lunch.  We were excited to see lots of yummy familiar food on the menu.  Tom got a Reuben sandwich he really enjoyed.  He also picked out a few pastries for desserts.  One he had been eyeing was called an Apple Charlotte.  We decided we had to get one for later.  I had originally planned on us going to a beach in the afternoon, but it was going to take us over an hour each way to get there and we did not have the energy (by we I mean Tom and I, the kids assured us they weren't tired and were up for anything).  Instead we went to a nearby playground and then were going to walk down to the water to see the ferry boats.  We ended up finding a very small beach and the kids had a great time playing in the sand.  Then home for an early bedtime for all.
